Jay R. Mason, AIA, LEED AP
Principal, Architectural Consulting Services, LLC
Jay is the Principal and Founder of Architectural Consulting Services (ACS) in Lowell. Prior to founding ACS in 2003, he worked for regional, design-build firms as well as large, national architectural companies where his project management expertise enabled success in fast-paced, demand-driven environments. Jay’s accomplishments include building projects of varying types, sizes, and locations. With sensitivity to aesthetics, sustainability, and pragmatism, his most meaningful achievements include the many challenging, historic renovations of adaptive reuse in urban neighborhoods.
A Registered Architect since 1993, Jay earned his Bachelor of Architectural Design from the University of Florida, and his Master of Architecture degree from Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University. He is NCARB and LEED certified and brings a focus on sustainable practices to every project he undertakes. Jay can point to more than 25 years of success in commercial, residential, and institutional architecture.
Jay’s community-advocacy work spans several decades of leadership supporting issues to shape policy and awareness of environmentally sensitive building practices, green spaces, sustainable energy consumption, and community-service organizations, including: Chair of Lowell’s Sustainability Council, Chair of Friends of Tyler Park, Board Member of the Salvation Army and Member of 350MA of Greater Lowell/350.org. Jay is also an Eagle Scout and has served in the past as scout leader and religious education teacher.
At ACS, Jay leads by example–with hard work, a client-centered focus, personal accountability, and by fostering a culture that encourages collaboration and respects independent thinking.
Will Arvidson, Associate AIA
Associate, Architectural Consulting Services, LLC
With an artist’s talent for drawing, Will knew from an early age that he wanted to be an architect. He earned both his Bachelor and Master of Architecture degrees from Roger Williams University. Since joining ACS in 2008, Will has supported the completion of more than 150 architectural projects including residential, commercial, and institutional projects in every phase of design from concept to construction administration.
As a Massachusetts licensed construction supervisor, Will holds a deep understanding and respect for the building process. His expertise in energy modeling, rendering, and CAD production are essential skills for planning and bringing projects alive pre-construction. In addition, Will is experienced at creative problem solving, which makes him particularly adept at developing advanced solutions for complicated programs.
An active contributor to his community, Will earned the Key to the Town of Chelmsford for his local service and has recently been added as a member of the town’s Historic Commission. As a young man, he attained the rank of Eagle Scout and continues to live by the tenets of the Scout Law in his work and personal life. Will is a member of Lowell’s Sustainability Council and enjoys using his construction and architectural knowledge to improve the environmental performance and resilience of buildings and neighborhoods in the greater Lowell community and beyond.
